“May you live in interesting times”

It’s amazing what you may learn if you listen. This is one of those “pearls of wisdom” that I picked up today.

The attribution to this saying being an ancient Chinese cures, is incorrect. Scholars have not been able to find this saying in anything currently available. I take this “pearl of wisdom” from the Wikipedia – May you live in interesting times :- Wikipedia.

Also from the Wikipedia is that this is the third of escalating severity. The first two being:

  • May you come to the attention of those in authority (sometimes rendered May the government be aware of you)
  • May you find what you are looking for

I’m struggling to decide how to classify this “pearl of wisdom”. Maybe correcting an urban myth, is the correct way to describe this.
